Despite seeing his records at risk, Gretzky had nothing but praise for the current Oilers superstar as he pushes to break The Great One’s single-season points record.

NHL legend Wayne Gretzky praised Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid during a Hockey Hall of Fame ceremony on Friday, describing his performance as remarkable. Gretzky commended McDavid's leadership and noted that he appears desperately focused on bringing a Stanley Cup to Edmonton while performing on a historic scoring pace.
McDavid has recorded 44 points across his first 17 games, placing him on pace for 217 points this season. That total would surpass Gretzky's single-season NHL record of 215 points set in 1985-86. Gretzky remains the only player in NHL history to reach the 200-point mark in a single season.
