Boston Bruins rookie forward James Hagens suffered an apparent lower-back injury during his team's 6-2 victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night. Hagens departed early in the third period following a cross-check from Penguins defenseman Samuel Girard. The 20-year-old received medical evaluation on the bench before heading down the tunnel, and he did not return to the game.
Prior to leaving, Hagens logged nearly 12 minutes of ice time across 15 shifts. The Bruins did not provide an immediate postgame medical update. Hagens has recorded six goals and six assists across 17 appearances this season, leading all NHL rookies with 12 points.
