The root of Elias Pettersson’s resurgence through 18 games is the healthier environment around the Canucks and the better headspace he brought into training camp.

Vancouver Canucks center Elias Pettersson has experienced a resurgence this season, crediting a healthier team culture and work with a mental coach. Through the first 18 games, Pettersson has recorded four goals and 14 assists while significantly increasing his physical engagement and two-way play, despite the Canucks' difficult 3-14-1 start under new head coach Manny Malhotra and general manager Ryan Johnson.
Pettersson struggled during the previous two seasons after signing an eight-year, $92.8 million extension, but Johnson emphasized establishing a supportive, communicative environment following his hiring in May. Pettersson currently leads all NHL forwards in shot blocks and puck battles won, earning praise from teammates and coaches for his revitalized confidence.
