Despite being one of the best backup centers in the NBA, San Antonio Spurs big man Luke Kornet continues to struggle.

Writer Cal Durrett argues that San Antonio Spurs backup center Luke Kornet is struggling defensively, negatively impacting the second unit whenever Victor Wembanyama rests. Kornet was a minus-22 in 14 minutes against the Dallas Mavericks, with his defensive field goal percentage worsening from 44.9% last season to 53% this season.
Durrett suggests that Spurs coach Mitch Johnson should consider giving rookie center Tarris Reed Jr. minutes to evaluate alternatives. Reed Jr. has played only 23 minutes across five games, but Durrett believes his offensive rebounding could help compensate for Kornet's decline.
