Vitor Matos defends Marko Stamenic after the midfielder's sending off during Swansea City's defeat at Birmingham City.

Swansea City head coach Vitor Matos defended Marko Stamenic after the midfielder received a 26th-minute red card in a defeat against Birmingham City. Matos claimed Stamenic cleanly played the ball in his challenge on Ethan Laird, calling the dismissal harsh compared to other recent incidents in English football. Birmingham manager Chris Davies countered that it was a poor challenge, with Jay Stansfield scoring twice to secure Birmingham's victory.
Stamenic now faces a three-match suspension against West Brom, Middlesbrough, and Cardiff City unless Swansea win an appeal. The match at St Andrew's was also halted when Swansea goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux handed objects thrown from the crowd, including two lighters, to referee Anthony Backhouse. Despite suffering a fourth defeat in five Championship matches, Matos expressed confidence that Swansea will regain their early-season form.
