The New York Knicks may have paused discussing a contract extension with Karl-Anthony Towns, but that doesn’t mean they’re not planning for multiple outcomes.Towns, 30, is eligible to sign a four-year extension worth approximately $276 million. Unfortunately for the Knicks…

The New York Knicks have reportedly placed a trade on the table for Karl-Anthony Towns if extension negotiations remain stalled and he considers departing. Towns is eligible for a four-year extension worth roughly $276 million, but talks are complicated by owner James Dolan's reported mandate to avoid the second luxury tax apron. Towns reportedly rejected a four-year, $200 million offer earlier this summer that would have represented a significant pay cut.
Towns holds a player option for the final season of his contract, meaning he could potentially test unrestricted free agency. The Knicks also face looming extensions for Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson. Furthermore, league executives suggest Jalen Duren's recent $200 million deal with the Detroit Pistons has established a market benchmark that Towns will expect to exceed in any new agreement.
