Doc Rivers questioned Giannis Antetokounmpo’s basketball IQ, and the Spurs staying out of his trade sweepstakes looks smarter with Victor Wembanyama in place.

Writer Jahlil Williams argues that the San Antonio Spurs were right to avoid pursuing Giannis Antetokounmpo, following recent comments by Doc Rivers. Speaking on the Bill Simmons Podcast, Rivers criticized Antetokounmpo's basketball IQ and playing style, claiming the former MVP forces plays and lacks flexibility on the court.
While Williams contends Rivers was out of line to question Antetokounmpo's intelligence, he suggests the superstar's rigid, physical style would not have meshed well with Victor Wembanyama. Williams notes that Antetokounmpo, who reportedly landed with the Miami Heat, requires significant floor space and that building entirely around Wembanyama remains San Antonio's best strategy.
