Eugenio Suarez offers the Yankees an available third-base power bat, but his 2026 production and defense require scrutiny.

Empire Sports Media writer Alexander Wilson argues that the New York Yankees should only target free-agent third baseman Eugenio Suarez on a short, reasonably priced contract. Suarez reached free agency after Cincinnati declined its portion of a mutual option for 2027. While Wilson notes Suarez could add power at third base, he stresses that the team must carefully balance the veteran's offensive capabilities against his recent production and roster fit.
Suarez hit 26 home runs with a .212/.307/.433 slash line in 2026 after hitting 49 home runs in 2025. Wilson highlights concerns regarding strikeouts, weak contact, and defensive fit, noting that designated hitter at-bats in New York are already occupied by Giancarlo Stanton and Ben Rice. Wilson also points to posted Korean third baseman Si Hwan Roh as an alternative option for the Yankees to scout.
