DeMarco stated that her husband meant no harm and felt terrible about how the situation appeared after he threw a forceful chest pass back to a referee. She explained that her husband is a former college basketball player whose muscle memory took over.
The ejection occurred during the third quarter with 2:35 remaining after a blocked shot landed the basketball in the fan's lap. Dončić questioned the fan's aggressive toss to the official, which led to the fan being promptly escorted out of the arena. DeMarco noted that her husband retains full respect for the game's officials.
