The Story in 60 Seconds

Writer Al Yellon identified the specific game depicted in an old photograph submitted by a reader, determining it was played between the Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres on June 17, 1974. The image depicts Cubs catcher Steve Swisher tagging out Padres base runner Horace Clarke at home plate following a throw from left fielder Billy Williams.

Yellon traced the details by recognizing Swisher, along with Padres on-deck batter Cito Gaston wearing No. 21. Although the Cubs initially led 5-0, the Padres eventually won the contest 7-5 in 13 innings after scoring two runs off pitcher Steve Stone.
