Rohit Sharma is reportedly set to return as Mumbai Indians captain for IPL 2027, replacing Hardik Pandya, while Riyan Parag is expected to continue leading Rajasthan Royals. The captaincy adjustments come alongside an impending major trade between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings involving Hardik Pandya and left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh. Both franchises have submitted Expressions of Interest to the BCCI, awaiting final governing body approval.
Under the proposed trade deal, Pandya will join Punjab Kings as a player under captain Shreyas Iyer, while Arshdeep moves to Mumbai. Tilak Varma is being considered for Mumbai's vice-captaincy, with Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav retaining leadership roles. Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal will reportedly remain Rajasthan Royals' vice-captain under Parag.
