Julián Alvarez’s Atlético redemption arc in full focus for visit of Barcelona

Atlético Madrid forward Julián Alvarez faces Barcelona on Sunday at the Metropolitano with top spot in La Liga at stake. Alvarez, who previously pushed for a summer transfer to Barcelona and faced backlash from Atlético supporters, has an opportunity to complete his reconciliation with the home fans by defeating the club he wanted to join.

After failing to secure a move and splitting with his former agent, Alvarez recently apologized to Atlético supporters and scored in consecutive fixtures. While Barcelona have flourished offensively without him, Diego Simeone's side have won seven straight league matches and can climb to the summit of La Liga with a victory.
