It was a distinctly better effort than the Canucks managed in Thursday’s lifeless loss. But their opponent was much better too.

The Vancouver Canucks fell 4-2 to the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night after conceding two quick goals early in the third period. Jason Dickinson snapped a 1-1 tie just 49 seconds into the final frame before Leon Draisaitl doubled Edmonton's lead on a power play. Brock Boeser narrowed the deficit late with an extra attacker, but Draisaitl sealed Edmonton's victory with an empty-net goal to drop Vancouver to a 3-15-1 record.
Despite the defeat, Vancouver coach Manny Malhotra praised his team's improved effort and detail through the first two periods following a recent blowout loss. Edmonton originally opened the scoring via Mattias Ekholm off a Connor McDavid setup before Max Sasson deflected in a tying goal late in the first period. Goaltender Devon Levi finished with 20 saves on 22 shots for Edmonton, while Leevi Merilainen stopped 26 of 29 in net for Vancouver.
