Devin Haney is reportedly close to signing a direct deal with DAZN, creating promotional complications for Zuffa Boxing. The move impacts potential matchups for Shakur Stevenson, who recently signed with Zuffa following his victory over Teofimo Lopez.
Haney has long been considered one of Stevenson’s primary rivals in the light division. A direct agreement with DAZN means any future bout between the two fighters will require cooperation between competing broadcast networks. Unless Turki Alalshikh decides to fund the event and align both parties, cross-platform negotiations could prove complicated. Zuffa Boxing secured Stevenson to anchor its stable of fighters, gaining one of the sport’s finest technical boxers. However, Haney choosing to sign with DAZN rather than Zuffa forces the promotional startup to rethink its strategy.
Zuffa now faces an immediate operational test.
With Haney expected to align with DAZN, questions remain regarding who will fill Stevenson’s upcoming schedule. Stevenson has publicly identified Lamont Roach Jr. and Gary Antuanne Russell as potential opponents. Those pairings carry technical merit and appeal to dedicated boxing fans. However, neither option has demonstrated the broad commercial appeal needed to generate a major pay-per-view event. Gervonta Davis remains the most prominent profile available in the weight class. Yet, extended periods of inactivity and recent uneven performances have tempered public enthusiasm for that potential pairing.
If Stevenson holds substantial influence over his opponent selection, Haney’s destination becomes a central factor in Zuffa’s long-term planning. The promotion risks having fewer financially viable choices while depending on external cooperation to deliver marquee fights. Alalshikh has previously demonstrated a willingness to bridge promotional divides to fund compelling bouts. A showdown between Haney and Stevenson could still happen if external financial backing is secured. Even so, relying on third-party intervention highlights the structural challenge Zuffa must navigate as it seeks to maximize its investment in Stevenson.
