Vladyslav Sirenko knocked out Otto Wallin at 2:59 of the tenth round at Madison Square Garden on Sunday night. The dramatic last-second finish secured Sirenko’s 23rd career victory and handed Wallin a devastating defeat in New York.
It was pure carnage in New York. Vladyslav Sirenko needed every single second to finish the job. With just one tick left on the clock in the final round, the Ukrainian unleashed a deadly straight right. He quickly followed with a crushing left hook that caught Otto Wallin flush on the chin. Wallin crashed face-first onto the canvas, knocked out cold before he even hit the deck. Medical personnel rushed into the ring immediately as the Swedish southpaw required a stretcher to leave the arena.
The fight looked completely destined for the judges’ scorecards. Then Sirenko landed the ultimate blow.
Up to that point, both heavyweights spent ten rounds standing toe-to-toe and swinging for the fences. Sirenko dragged Wallin into deep waters by marching forward, ripping shots into the body, and forcing the veteran backward. But Wallin showed plenty of grit. The 35-year-old Swede used slick southpaw footwork to slip attacks and crack Sirenko with sharp counters. He opened up nasty swelling beneath Sirenko’s right eye and banked several middle rounds through pure accuracy.
Fatigue set in late, but neither man backed down. They traded heat in the final minute before Sirenko found the dynamite in his hands to end it at the Infosys Theater. The sensational victory moves Sirenko to 23-1 with 20 knockouts, making a massive statement in his first appearance under the Zuffa Boxing banner. Meanwhile, Wallin falls to 28-4 after suffering one of the most brutal knockout losses of his career. Sirenko now sits in prime position for major heavyweight bouts, while Wallin faces a long road back after a terrifying night in New York.
