Shane Mosley Questions Adrien Broner’s Focus Ahead of Proposed Comeback

Hall of Famer Shane Mosley believes Adrien Broner still possesses the skill to fight, but questions whether the former four-division champion has the focus to return after three years out.

Adrien Broner is targeting a return to boxing following a three-year absence, but Hall of Famer Shane Mosley insists the former four-division world champion must prove his commitment to training before securing another high-profile bout in the welterweight division.

Broner has not fought since 2024, leaving significant doubts over whether he can still compete at an elite level. Mosley spent time alongside his former colleague recently and voiced concerns regarding his mental discipline during an interview with FightHype.

“I think that if he doesn’t lose focus on his goal and his dreams, then he’ll be all right,” Mosley stated when asked about Broner’s condition.

“Sometimes he really, really want it and sometimes like he don’t give up, but he’s still working, but he loses focus on what he’s trying to do.”

Questions surrounding Broner’s fitness intensified after recent video footage showed him carrying noticeable extra weight around his midsection. While the technical ability remains clear, raw talent alone cannot compensate for extended periods out of the ring. Mosley made it clear that the physical tools are still present, but the application is lacking.

“He has the skills. He has the talent to be able to do some stuff,” Mosley explained.

“But I think that his worth, he’s got to show that. He’s not showing that he wants to fight. He can talk like that all day long. But he has to really be consistent, really be dedicated like he says he is and he can do it.”

Talk is cheap in professional boxing. Broner must now deliver in the gym.

Once viewed as the natural successor to Floyd Mayweather Jr, Broner’s career has stalled significantly over the past decade. The Cincinnati fighter has stepped into the ring just four times since 2019, drifting away from contention while active rivals established themselves at the top of the sport. Returning after three years out requires complete dedication, not casual interest. Until he enters a structured training camp and signs a bout agreement against a legitimate opponent, skepticism will remain about whether Broner will ever fight again.
