Veteran trainer Abel Sanchez offered a clear assessment of Zepeda’s physical and strategic dominance during the contest. Sanchez admitted that the ease with which the Mexican southpaw controlled his opponent caught him by surprise. Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Sanchez stated: ““I was a little surprised on how easy it was for him to pressure and to control Lamont Roach’s movements and combinations. He never allowed him to get off,””
Reflecting on Zepeda’s previous tactical clash against Shakur Stevenson, Sanchez suggested that the adjustment in preparation paid off, while Roach struggled with the jump in standard. He remarked: ““Is this a result of going back to the drawing board and learning from the Shakur fight? I’m sure it was part of it, but the other part, it just seemed like maybe Lamont’s not ready for that level yet.””
Zepeda maintained his tactical discipline from start to finish.
Even when Roach managed moments of early success, the champion remained composed and refused to rush in search of a knockout. Instead, he relied on superior conditioning to break up Roach’s momentum. Sanchez praised the Mexican’s endurance and tactical execution, stating: ““He had plenty of gas. He was able to do it for the whole fight. He never really allowed Roach to get into a rhythm. I think Zepeda deserves a lot of credit not only for his game plan but that he stuck to it and just continued that pressure.””

Sanchez identified IBF champion Raymond Muratalla and unbeaten WBO titleholder Abdullah Mason as potential opponents.
