Leicester City have not submitted a £3million bid for Boreham Wood star Abdul Abdulmalik, shooting down sensational transfer rumors. Russell Martin is reshaping his squad with six summer arrivals while fighting off Sheffield United interest for defender Harry Souttar.
Reports linking the Foxes with a blockbuster move for the non-League forward are completely wide of the mark. Boreham Wood have already knocked back a £1million offer and snubbed two bids from Swedish side Djurgardens. A £3million transfer fee would have ranked among the highest ever for a non-League player, trailing only Max Kilman’s £4.4million move to Wolves and eclipsing the initial £1million deal Leicester struck for Jamie Vardy.
Martin is refusing to get sucked into transfer market madness. The manager has moved swiftly to bolster his squad on a tight budget.
Six fresh faces have already arrived at Leicester this summer to spark the rebuilding process. Wes Burns signed a three-year deal for just £75,000 from Ipswich Town, joining loan additions Tommy Watson and Christian McFarlane. Free agents Conor Chaplin and Alex McCarthy have landed alongside Swansea forward Liam Cullen. Meanwhile, Sheffield United are aggressively trying to pry Harry Souttar away, but Leicester have firmly shut the door on the Blades.
Addressing the relentless pursuit of Souttar, Martin made his position clear. “There’s been a couple of offers, but no discussions, and the answer has been no,” the boss confirmed. He added: “We’re looking for people who will add to the squad in a few positions.”
The pressure is mounting as deadline day approaches with major squad decisions looming. Martin knows more moving parts are coming before the window slams shut. “It’ll become clear for you guys over the next couple of weeks when we see people come in, we might see people go – I hope Harry’s not one of them.” Retaining Souttar remains vital as Leicester reshape their roster for the grueling campaign ahead.
