Super Rugby Pacific unveils a 17-round, 80-game regular season for 2027 featuring 10 Sunday fixtures and an Anzac Day clash between Queensland Reds and Auckland Blues. The expanded campaign kicks off on Friday, February 12, with a sudden-death finals format.
Sunday footy takes center stage in the new schedule with 10 weekend wrap-up games locked in for supporters. Without Moana Pasifika in the lineup, the 10-team competition expands across 80 matches. Action kicks off in Christchurch as the Crusaders host the Reds on February 12, before the Brumbies host the NSW Waratahs in Canberra later that night. Manuka Oval will host two Brumbies matches for the first time in 30 years, taking on the Force and Reds.
Sunday clashes will see the Waratahs take on both the Crusaders and Western Force. Meanwhile, Super Round lands in Christchurch in round eight, starting with a Friday night battle between the Crusaders and Brumbies.
Reds squad depth faces a major test in round 11. With no bye scheduled, Queensland must cope without key stars during Wallabies duties, mirroring NRL teams in Origin period.
Super Rugby Pacific CEO Jack Mesley praised the revamped calendar:
“We’re delighted to deliver a 2027 draw that gives fans more to look forward to than ever before – Sunday footy, an epic Easter weekend, Super Round back in Christchurch, and a history-making Anzac weekend in Brisbane,”
Early-season form will directly influence national selections ahead of mid-year Test matches.
Mesley highlighted the extra motivation for top players:
“Every team begins the season with a clear ambition to win the title, but the stakes will be even higher next year, with the opening half of the season shaping as a shootout for Test jerseys ahead of the inaugural Anzac Bledisloe, and the Rugby World Cup coming sharply into view beyond it.”
Every weekend carries major elimination stakes under the revised postseason structure. Mesley concluded:
“Throw in all the traditional and emerging rivalries, and a new finals series where every game is sudden-death, and there will be more at stake in every Super Rugby Pacific fixture, from the opening whistle through to the grand final.”
