Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are closing in on an all-British heavyweight clash set for the UK after promoter Eddie Hearn refused to move the mega-fight abroad. Venue negotiations are nearing completion to finalize the historic domestic showdown.
The massive heavyweight blockbuster looked destined for Madison Square Garden in New York. But British fight fans demanded the show stay on home soil. Matchroom chief Eddie Hearn insists he won’t budge on keeping the giant ring inside a British stadium. Hearn made his stance clear: “We know we’ve been heard. We know the public has been heard as well. And if we can get it over the line, it will be a very proud moment for myself and particularly for Anthony to bring this massive fight to the UK.”
Hearn doubled down on his refusal to fly the mega-fight across the Atlantic. He insists the UK audience earned the right to host this brutal heavyweight rivalry. He added: “We’ll have to see. But I’m pretty comfortable with our position, because I think now it’s been well established by everybody involved that we’re not moving. It is happening in the UK, and there’s nothing you can do to change my mind, and more importantly, Anthony Joshua’s mind.”
Not everyone thinks the fight arrives at the perfect moment. Tyson’s estranged uncle Peter Fury spoke on Fight Your Corner alongside Tony Bellew to deliver his verdict. The veteran trainer offered a direct assessment of both fighters facing off late in their boxing careers. He declared: “As a boxing man, I think [Fury vs AJ] has come too late. But look, the money’s there and I think the payday is massive, so why not? So, they can finish off their careers with a massive paycheck.”
The tactical battle will come down to raw power against pure ringcraft. Fury will try to dance on the outside and pepper his rival with jabs, while AJ wants to unleash a knockout blow. Breaking down the fight, Peter Fury said: “I think Tyson is either going to outbox and he’ll get to Joshua, or Joshua’s going to find a target and he’ll clean him out. So, it’s one or the other, isn’t it? I think it comes down to what game plans they’re going to do,”
It is pure blockbuster drama. An official date now remains the final hurdle before two British titans collide in the biggest purse of their lives.
