Rory McIlroy will be left with regrets after a difficult day

Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy opened the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth with a three-under-par round of 69. Despite holding the outright lead after 10 holes, McIlroy fell back into the pack following a difficult end to his round. The Masters champion is playing a reduced schedule this year but made an exception for the tournament in Surrey.
McIlroy showed visible frustration during his round, particularly after an errant approach shot on the sixth hole, which was his 15th of the day. Meanwhile, PGA Championship winner Aaron Rai and Sweden's Joakim Lagergren ended the first round in a share of the lead, while defending champion Alex Noren posted a one-under-par 71.
