Hans-Joachim Watzke would have liked to appoint current England boss Thomas Tuchel as Germany coach following the 2022 World Cup.

German Football Association vice-president Hans-Joachim Watzke has revealed he considered appointing Thomas Tuchel as Germany head coach following the country's group-stage exit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Watzke contemplated replacing then-manager Hansi Flick with Tuchel, who is the current England manager.
However, Watzke was unable to push the idea through with then-DFB sporting director Oliver Bierhoff, and the decision was made to continue with Flick. Flick remained in charge of the national team until he was eventually sacked in 2023. Notably, Watzke and Tuchel previously had a disagreement that led to Tuchel's dismissal from Borussia Dortmund in 2017.
