Man United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo did not play a single minute for England during this summer's World Cup

England head coach Thomas Tuchel admitted it hurt him to not play Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo during the World Cup. The 21-year-old midfielder did not play a single minute at the tournament and missed the third-place play-off against France due to an injury sustained in the build-up. Tuchel took personal responsibility for the decision, noting that he placed more trust in other central midfield options.
Mainoo has since regained his starting place at Manchester United, forming a midfield partnership with Youri Tielemans. Tuchel has recalled Mainoo to the England squad for upcoming Nations League fixtures against Spain, Czechia, and Croatia, with their first match scheduled against Spain on September 26.
