Key Things to Know
  • Anthony Joshua insisted on holding the Tyson Fury fight in the UK as stipulated in his contract.
  • Turki Alalshikh, Netflix, and Dana White wanted the bout staged in New York on November 20.
  • Eddie Hearn rejected claims from Dana White that keeping the fight in the UK hurts the event.
The Story in 60 Seconds

Promoter Eddie Hearn has defended Anthony Joshua's decision to insist on staging his upcoming fight against Tyson Fury in the UK rather than the US. Despite pressure from financier Turki Alalshikh, broadcaster Netflix, and dealmaker Dana White to host the bout in New York on November 20, Joshua stood firm on his contract stipulation requiring a UK venue.

Hearn criticized White's comments that accused him of hurting the fight by refusing to move the location. Because of Wembley Stadium's 11pm curfew and the requirement for a late US broadcast time, Cardiff's Principality Stadium has emerged as a potential host venue capable of staging the event in the early hours of the morning.
