Michael Carrick's future is suddenly in the spotlight and this week's Man Utd Notebook looks at what could happen next.

Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick is reportedly retaining the backing of club executives Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox despite a recent Carabao Cup capitulation against Brighton. United threw away a 2-0 lead to lose the midweek match, which marked their third defeat in the first six games of the season. However, club leadership currently has no plans to make an imminent managerial change.
Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who recently attended the Manchester derby alongside Avram Glazer, faced fan protests regarding the treatment of supporters. While Ratcliffe reportedly favored appointing a higher-profile manager last season, Carrick's permanent appointment became impossible to ignore after his strong run of form.
