Barry Williams said he was concerned how the network would hold up when the city hosts UEFA 2028

Barry Williams, the chair of the Everton FC Fans' Forum, has challenged claims from transport officials that Sandhills station is performing well. Following a Carabao Cup tie at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, transport representatives expressed satisfaction with the station's performance since Everton relocated from Goodison Park. Williams, however, described the station's situation as "chaos" and stated he is not buying the positive assessment based on fan feedback.
Around 20,000 passengers use Sandhills station on a typical matchday. Simon Finnie, head of network performance for the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, noted that over £6 million could be spent on upgrades if Liverpool Council approves a proposed space extension. Williams questioned why football-only trains have not been implemented and expressed concern over how the network will handle hosting UEFA Euro 2028.
