Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has confirmed that he attempted to recruit LeBron James to the team before James signed with the Philadelphia 76ers. Curry acknowledged the recruitment effort during an interview with CNBC, stating that anyone who did not try to sign James would be a fool. The Warriors had previously explored acquiring James prior to the 2024 trade deadline.
James ultimately chose to sign a two-year, $8 million contract with the 76ers as a free agent. The Warriors had attempted to create financial flexibility to maximize their championship window around Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green, with Green reportedly opting out of his contract to help the team's pursuit.
