The Arizona Diamondbacks have officially released outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and sent relief pitcher Derek Law through outright waivers. Both players were recently designated for assignment by the club. Arizona remains responsible for Gurriel's $5 million option buyout, as he had the necessary service time to refuse a minor league assignment while collecting his remaining contract.
Gurriel struggled during the 2026 season following last fall's ACL surgery, batting just .210/.254/.290 with two home runs in 201 plate appearances. Meanwhile, the 36-year-old Law pitched nine innings for the major league team but was removed from the roster to make room for returning pitcher Ryne Nelson.
