UFC interim heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane will not be automatically promoted to undisputed champion despite Tom Aspinall vacating his title. UFC CEO and President Dana White confirmed that Gane must fight to earn the undisputed status. Gane previously won the interim heavyweight title by defeating Alex Pereira at UFC Freedom 250 in June.
White clarified the promotion's stance during an interview with SportsNet's Diana Belbita. The decision comes after Aspinall vacated his title to address an ongoing eye issue that required surgery, deviating from the UFC's historical practice of automatically upgrading interim champions.
