Padres’ Ethan Salas walks off Marlins in extra innings

The San Diego Padres defeated the Miami Marlins 7-6 in extra innings on Saturday night at Petco Park. Twenty-year-old catcher Ethan Salas delivered his first career MLB walk-off hit, driving in Jake Cronenworth from third base in the bottom of the 10th inning. Salas lined a single up the middle against Marlins reliever Josh Ekness on an 0-2 count to secure the victory.

With this win, the Padres improved their record to 86-69 and reduced their magic number to three for clinching a third consecutive postseason berth. Under manager Mike Shildt, San Diego has won 12 of its last 13 games, maintaining a strong position in the National League wild-card race.
