Speaking at Kyle Lowry's block party, VanVleet expressed excitement for the city and the organization, noting that the Raptors will be a highly competitive team in the Eastern Conference with Leonard back on the roster.

VanVleet and Leonard previously won the 2019 NBA Championship together in Toronto before Leonard departed for the Los Angeles Clippers. To facilitate Leonard's return, the Raptors reportedly traded Brandon Ingram and an unnamed guard.
