Berg is expected to land the position as head of the Mavericks' medical team, which has undergone multiple overhauls in recent years.

Berg's candidacy is reportedly bolstered by his connection to new Mavericks president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri. Berg studied under Alex McKechnie in Toronto, a link that appeals to Ujiri. After retiring from professional soccer in 2002, Berg transitioned to physiotherapy, earning a master's degree from the University of Queensland.
