The Miami Heat is reportedly planning to keep its 15th roster spot open heading into the 2026-27 NBA season. According to team insider Barry Jackson, Miami intends to wait to see if a needle-moving player becomes available in free agency. This strategy follows an active offseason in which the Heat acquired two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and veteran sharpshooter Klay Thompson.
One potential target for the final roster spot is veteran center Brook Lopez, who currently plays for the Los Angeles Clippers. According to Sean Jordan of Heat Roundtable, the 38-year-old Lopez could become a buyout candidate around the trade deadline if the Clippers decide to sell. Lopez previously played alongside Antetokounmpo for several seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks.
