Ferrari to decide Charles Leclerc’s Baku engine penalty after Thursday practice

Ferrari will wait until after Thursday practice at the 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix to decide whether Charles Leclerc will take a new power unit and incur an engine penalty. Team principal Frédéric Vasseur previously indicated that Leclerc was expected to take a penalty, but the team will initially evaluate the ADUO2-specification engine that was recovered following Leclerc's accident in Monza.

Leclerc will begin the Baku weekend using the recovered engine in the SF-26 car. If Ferrari opts to install a completely new unit, Leclerc will receive a grid penalty, though Ferrari expects both Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton to incur power unit penalties before the season concludes.
