Gianni Infantino outlines FIFA reform plans in letter to member associations

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has outlined proposed governance reforms in a letter sent to all 211 member associations and FIFA Council members. Infantino has faced growing calls to resign from UEFA, the Asian confederation, and CONCACAF after abandoning plans to sell a 20 percent stake in FIFA tournaments to private investors. Despite the mounting pressure, the 56-year-old Swiss executive reaffirmed his full commitment to leading the organization and confirmed his intention to stand for re-election.

In his letter, Infantino proposed an independent external review of FIFA's governance framework for strategic initiatives, alongside a structured consultation with confederations and member associations to enhance decision-making and transparency. The developments follow recent pressure from Football Association chair Debbie Hewitt, who called for an independent review into the investor proposal and scrutinized the disciplinary handling of United States striker Folarin Balogun's suspended ban during the World Cup.
