The Story in 60 Seconds

Medinah Country Club in suburban Chicago is celebrating the centennial of its historic clubhouse, which officially opened on September 26, 1926. Designed by architect Richard Gustav Schmid in a Byzantine style featuring minarets and Moorish architectural elements, the structure was inspired by a mosque in Turkey. Founded in 1924 by Shriners from Chicago's Medinah Temple, the venue serves as the host for major events, including the Presidents Cup.

Over the past century, Medinah has hosted three U.S. Opens, two PGA Championships, and the 2012 Ryder Cup across its grounds. Historic moments at Course No. 3 include Hale Irwin's dramatic 1990 U.S. Open victory and Tiger Woods' PGA Championship wins in 1999 and 2006. The clubhouse features a 60-foot rotunda and gathering spaces overlooking courses designed by Tom Bendelow.
