The WBC has ordered Carlos Adames to make a mandatory title defense of his middleweight championship against Meiirim Nursultanov. Dan Rafael reported that both camps must negotiate a deal or face a purse bid scheduled for October 20. The eventual winner is mandated to face interim champion Jesus Ramos Jr. in a subsequent defense.
Nursultanov was originally scheduled to fight Ramos for the interim belt before Ramos was hospitalized and forced to withdraw due to food poisoning. With that bout canceled, the sanctioning body ruled that Nursultanov advances directly to challenge Adames for the full world title without needing an interim fight first.
