Ezequiel Tovar has found a groove in the final months of 2026

Colorado Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar has displayed a notable turnaround at the plate in the final months of the 2026 season. After entering August with a .196 batting average and a .243 on-base percentage, Tovar has slashed .279/.325/.404 with 29 hits, including four doubles and three home runs, since August 1. In September alone, he is batting .297 with 11 hits and 10 runs scored across 37 at-bats.

Tovar's recent success stems largely from improved plate discipline and contact rates. Since August 1, his first-pitch strike rate dropped from a league-leading 72.3% to 59.1%, while his out-of-zone swing rate decreased to 39.8%. Additionally, Tovar improved his contact rate on pitches inside the strike zone to 86.9%, up more than four percentage points from earlier in the campaign.
