Jake O’Brien’s impressive training camp has put him firmly in the Kraken’s NHL roster conversation, but a lower-body injury could keep him out of the preseason’s final stretch.

Seattle Kraken top prospect Jake O’Brien is listed as day-to-day with a lower-body ailment, potentially impacting his push for an NHL roster spot. Head coach Lane Lambert indicated that holding the 19-year-old center out is precautionary. O’Brien previously scored a goal and recorded an assist in Seattle's preseason opener against the Vancouver Canucks before surviving roster cuts down to 25 players.
The injury may prevent O’Brien from playing in remaining preseason games ahead of the regular-season opener on October 1. Drafted eighth overall by Seattle in the 2025 NHL Draft, O'Brien is also eligible to play in the AHL under a rule allowing one 19-year-old first-round pick per team to join the minor-league affiliate.
