Jaime Munguia may give up his WBA super middleweight title rather than defend it against Bektemir Melikuziev. Rick Glaser says Munguia’s team is considering that Jaime Munguia May Vacate Rather Than Fight Bektemir Melikuziev @ Boxing News 24

Jaime Munguia's team is reportedly considering vacating his WBA super middleweight title instead of defending it against mandatory challenger Bektemir Melikuziev. According to Rick Glaser, Munguia's camp is actively evaluating the option to give up the belt. The WBA has ordered the bout and granted both sides until October 21 to negotiate a deal before potentially ordering a purse bid.
Melikuziev earned his mandatory status after defeating Darius Fulghum in an eliminator in May 2025. Munguia previously claimed the WBA championship by defeating José Armando Reséndiz in May, but his team may look to pursue higher-profile fights at 168 pounds rather than facing the dangerous southpaw contender.
