NASCAR legend Darrell Waltrip steps away from public life after major health diagnosis

NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee Darrell Waltrip is stepping away from public life after receiving a cognitive health diagnosis. In a statement released by his family, the 79-year-old three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion revealed he has Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD), which is complicated by possible Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) resulting from his 29-year racing career.

According to the family's statement, Waltrip is currently experiencing minor symptoms and remains in good spirits. He plans to step away from the public spotlight to spend time with his wife Stevie, his two daughters, and his three grandchildren.
