Lions’ struggling defense has to finally solve its longstanding Geno Smith problem

The Detroit Lions are preparing to face quarterback Geno Smith and the New York Jets on Sunday. Detroit is aiming to contain Smith, who has rejoined the Jets following a productive three-year starting stretch with the Seattle Seahawks.

While playing for Seattle across three games against the Lions, Smith accumulated 1,043 passing yards, five passing touchdowns, and one rushing touchdown. Those matchups included a 48-45 Seattle victory in 2022 and an overtime win in 2023 capped by Smith's six-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Lockett.
