Lawrence Tanter Cause of Death: Iconic Los Angeles Lakers PA announcer passes away at 76

Longtime Los Angeles Lakers public address announcer Lawrence Tanter has passed away at the age of 76, the team announced late Wednesday night. Tanter served as the franchise's public address voice for 43 seasons, beginning his tenure with the team at the start of the 1982-83 NBA campaign.

While an official cause of death was not immediately released, Tanter reportedly suffered a stroke in March 2026 and later entered hospice care. The health setback led to his retirement from the PA role over the summer, after which he was designated to become a special advisor for game presentation.
