Titans legend Chris Johnson confronts football’s possible connection to ALS while fighting for more time with his family

Former Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson addressed the potential link between football and ALS in a People feature released on September 23. Following his initial diagnosis announcement in late June, Johnson and his wife Brittany shared updates on his condition to raise awareness and support research toward finding a cure.

Johnson now uses an electric wheelchair, CPAP breathing support, and an eye-controlled speech device with AI voice generation. He noted that while he cannot definitively blame football, the potential link between repeated trauma and neurological disease warrants continued study.
