Raptors executive says pausing of Kawhi Leonard trade was matter of ‘risk tolerance’

Toronto Raptors executive Bobby Webster stated that the team paused their trade for Kawhi Leonard purely as a matter of "risk tolerance." The Raptors and LA Clippers initially agreed to terms on June 30, but Toronto opted to pause the process in July until the NBA's investigation into the Clippers' alleged salary cap circumvention concluded.

Under the finalized permanent trade, Toronto sent Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, multiple draft picks, and a pick swap to Los Angeles. Webster explained that the Raptors were confident the deal would eventually go through and chose not to alter the agreed terms during the league's inquiry.
