Stormers director of rugby John Dobson confirmed that Jurie Matthee will start at flyhalf alongside on-loan scrumhalf André Warner against Connacht in round one of the URC. Young flyhalf Yaqeen Ahmed was named on the bench for the Galway fixture, though Dobson indicated he could enter the conversation to start against Edinburgh the following week.
Dobson highlighted Matthee's prior experience handling challenging weather conditions as the reason for his selection over the 20-year-old Ahmed. In addition, Dobson detailed an active rebuild of the squad's scrumhalf department, balancing veteran options like Stef Ungerer with emerging talent including Haashim Pead, Imad Khan, and Jayden Brits.
