Southampton ‘line-up’ Tonda Eckert replacement familiar to Middlesbrough if Spygate ban is long

Former Middlesbrough manager Edwards is reportedly admired by Southampton officials and could be targeted if current head coach Eckert receives a long-term ban. Eckert faced an FA disciplinary hearing on Thursday after being charged with three counts of bringing the game into disrepute relating to a Spygate scandal. Southampton hope to keep Eckert, but may need an interim or permanent replacement if a lengthy suspension is issued.

The charges follow an EFL investigation that found Southampton spied on Middlesbrough, Oxford United, and Ipswich Town training sessions, leading to a four-point deduction and play-off expulsion. Edwards is currently available after leaving Wolves in the summer following their relegation from the Premier League.
