West Ham United defender Konstantinos Mavropanos helped Greece secure a 2-1 comeback victory against Serbia in their Nations League opener on Thursday at the Rajko Mitic Stadion in Belgrade. Manager Ivan Jovanovic handed the 26-year-old his 43rd international cap. After conceding a goal in the fourth minute, Greece rallied defensively, limiting Serbia to just five shots from the 30-minute mark through full-time.
Mavropanos produced a solid performance, misplacing only three of 73 passes alongside three clearances, two interceptions, and two completed dribbles. Although he missed two scoring chances early in the second half, Greece eventually claimed victory via a late winner from Anastasios Douvikas, just three minutes after Mavropanos was substituted.
