Kansas City Royals news: Denny’s 8000th Royals Game is tonight!

Longtime Kansas City Royals broadcaster Denny Matthews will be honored at Kauffman Stadium on Friday as he broadcasts his 8,000th game with the franchise. The 83-year-old announcer, who represents the last remaining member of the original Royals organization, is scheduled to receive recognitions on both the television broadcast and on the field. Matthews also plans to return for his 59th season in 2027.

In team injury news, relief pitcher James McArthur will not pitch for the Royals during the remainder of the current season despite recently throwing in competitive games. Royals manager Matt Quatraro praised McArthur's recovery efforts, noting the pitcher is positioned for a healthy offseason ahead of spring training.
