Sandy Alcantara, Quality Reliever

Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara earned the first two saves of his Major League Baseball career in September. On September 16, Alcantara entered on two days' rest to pitch a clean ninth inning and secure a 4-3 victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Following a regular start against the San Diego Padres, he recorded another one-inning save against the Chicago Cubs after two days of rest.

Marlins manager Clayton McCullough turned to Alcantara due to injuries to relievers Pete Fairbanks and Anthony Bender alongside a depleted bullpen. Alcantara became the first pitcher since 1996 to record at least 33 starts and two saves in the same season, having previously made 201 consecutive major league starts without a relief appearance.
